Creating a healthy ecosystem
Immersive experiences can be powerful – in both good and bad ways.
As many people are experiencing extended reality (XR) for the first time we believe it’s important that these experiences are comfortable and safe.
While we see the potential to create unique experiences with XR technology, we believe creators in this space must also do the hard “human” work that’s needed in the areas of tech ethics, privacy protection, data sovereignty, standards for human experiences and social impacts.
That’s why we’re bringing social science skills to the innovation table and bringing ethics into our everyday product design and development practices — with our ‘Human Impact Framework’.
Spatial’s Human Impact Research
Our goal is to raise the bar on how we define and evaluate digital products by providing a framework that allows product teams access to best practices and assessment criteria.
As part of the Human Impact research project, this research explored privacy and personal data protection, specifically how people perceive the notices they see on their browsers about cookies, what their understanding and awareness is like, and what they do with the information/what actions they take, and what is their understanding of the outcomes of the action.
Avatars are digital representations of ourselves and other characters. As we move from 2D to 3D experiences, avatars and 3D personas become central to immersive experiences.
