We work with creators to design and build better XR experiences
Extended reality (XR) research provides insights into how different audience groups experience your XR device or application, and makes recommendations to reduce any points of friction.
Spatial has been doing XR research for over 7 years for both XR device hardware and applications; from 'out-of-the-box' testing, to functional UX, to exploring behaviour in the metaverse. Our team can handle all aspects of large complex studies across broad geographies.
When it comes to designing and content creation for extended reality (XR) and immersive 3D experiences, the approach is vastly different than designing for the 2D and screen-based experiences we are most familiar with. XR designers need to think in 3D and consider the device characteristics and interactions, the scale of the space, orientation and wayfinding, and elements of presence and storytelling.
XR research and design services we offer:
As XR devices become more mainstream, understanding how people onboard to the hardware is a critical part of the user experience. ‘Unboxing’ studies reveal any blockers and understand how long it takes to become confident using the device.
We provide insights for XR developers and help to answer specific questions about user behaviour, functional usability, accessibility, comfort and safety, through in-depth qualitative studies in field or in the lab.
We help clients explore XR opportunities, from identifying opportunities to creating storyboards and narratives and designing prototypes, and then engaging with developers to build out the experience.
